Compassion on the Soccer Field

Today I woke up, ate some very interesting pancakes, and went to church.  The service was beautiful because the Costa Rican band played their songs first, and then the Shannon Forest worship band played their songs.  The songs in both languages set up Mr. McGrath's message no matter where you are born, a relationship with Jesus Christ is the "universal passport."  After ate lunch at an amusement park, we played soccer against teams from the church in Guarari from the slums in la Cuenca.  As expected, the Shannon Forest senior guys lost both games.  However, both sides showed sportsmanship and compassion for one another.  For example, one player from the church team sprinted in for a shot as Stephen ran to kick the ball away from the goal.  They collided and Stephen sprained his ankle and was unable to walk off the field.  Once the player from the church team walked off the collision, he sat next to Stephen to make sure he was okay until he had to play again.  The compassion that each person here has for us, complete strangers, is incredible and will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
